Trends of Hiring Photographers has always been increasing so as the number of new photographers in the field. Mostly people are working under team or a company. So the work is divided among them, however, if you are working as photographer and editor as well then you must have the Command over Photoshop specially in the following tools of Photoshop:-
Move Tool
Selection Tool
Magic Wand Tool
Clone Stamp Tool
Brush Tool
Blur Option
Applying Stroke
Pen Tool
Dodge/Burn Tool
If you have full command in above tools with all the understanding of using options of Curve, Levels, Balancing Colors, you can handle both photography and editing by yourself in my opinion. I occasionally use Light Room for Raw Photos. However, Photoshop CS6 has this option too now. You can also download additional filters for smoothing the skin.
Further, Photoshop is full of wonders, you can create fantastic and eye catching designs using the same. Its all about your understanding, learning and practicing.. Learn it, give time, use your imagination, explore new options, feel free to apply, don't be embarrassed or sad of your first ever creation. Because every designer have already been there or going through the phase or at the final stages of that phase.
